In support of its mission to improve health care through graduate medical education (GME), the Journal of Graduate Medical Education (JGME) is completely open access as of February 2021. This means all JGME articles and content will be immediately available to the entire GME community and the general public. All archived issues are also now available. Previously, research papers were open to the public after one year.
Opening JGME to a larger audience with immediate access allows the ACGME to expand its ongoing efforts to improve health care by providing an editorially independent venue for original research, review articles, commentaries, guest editorials, and more.
JGME is financially and administratively supported by the ACGME, but maintains complete editorial independence.
“This move brings us to a place where anyone who has a need in the graduate medical education space, and who finds an article, can access it. The ACGME deserves big credit,” says Dr. Gail Sullivan, editor-in-chief of JGME.
February marks not only the first open-access issue, but also the first collection of articles committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, another cornerstone value of the ACGME.
